Serralves

Programa de voluntariado sÉnior de Serralves

Destinado a pessoas com mais de 50 anos e culturalmente ativas, que tenham vontade de partilhar com a Fundação de Serralves o seu tempo e o seu saber.
Aceite este desafio e candidate-se ao programa de voluntariado sénior de Serralves!

Inscreva-se atÉ 31 dezembro!


Os voluntários poderão inscrever-se numa das áreas de voluntariado, desempenhando tarefas tão variadas como:

- “tutoring”/”mentoring” a projetos na área das Indústrias Criativas;
- arquivo do material gráfico da Fundação, organização e visualização do registo vídeo em depósito na Biblioteca de Serralves;
- apoio ao nível do acolhimento dos participantes nos programas educativos e ao nível logístico (preparação e reposição de materiais para oficinas) no Serviço Educativo;
- apoio ao nível do acolhimento dos visitantes nas Exposições;
- apoio ao nível do acolhimento dos participantes em Cursos/Workshops/Conferências.

Central Caribbean Marine Institute

Research Intern, Cayman Islands
CCMI Research Intern Position 2013, Little Cayman Research Centre, Cayman Islands 

The Central Caribbean Marine Institute has an immediate opening for a Field Research Intern whose primary role will be to assist with the research program at the Little Cayman Research Centre. The Field Research Intern will assist in the collection of data on our various projects. Other responsibilities include data entry, analysis, and report writing. 

Research Intern Responsibilities include: 
Research & Conservation Assist with collecting, processing, and archiving coral, fish, and algae data as part of the Long Term Monitoring Project. 
Conduct lionfish surveys and dissections. 
Collect, analyse and help write up our Grouper projects 
Provide support for our Climate Change projects 
Assist with maintaining and compiling data from the Coral Reef Early Warning System 

Additional Responsibilities
Assist Lab Manager with keeping labs and materials clean/organized. 
Act as a Teaching assistant if needed on CCMI courses 
Promote the field station to scientists 
Assist with publications and grants 
Deliver reef lectures and talks on Little Cayman 
Assist the Director of Operations with other duties at the station 


Qualifications: Intern should have prior relevant experience in coral reef biology research as well as excellent communications and writing skills. The intern should have data collection skills and be able to identify native Caribbean reef fish species while capable of working independently on a small remote island. Divemaster Certification preferred. Hold an MS degree in marine related science.

Pacific Whale Foundation (PWF)

Internship Opportunity in Maui, Hawai'i with Pacific Whale Foundation

Pacific Whale Foundation (PWF) - based in Maui, Hawai'i- is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting whales and other marine life through research, education, and conservation. Our researchers have studied whales and dolphins throughout the Pacific for over 30 years and currently conduct projects in Hawaii, Australia, and Ecuador. We offer internships in our Marine Mammal Research Program year-round.

COMMITMENT: PWF seeks performance-driven and dedicated individuals for long-term internships -applicants willing to commit longer than 3 months will be favored-to assist with our research efforts. Successful applicants are expected to work a minimum of 30 hours per week on a fixed schedule. 

REQUIREMENTS: Ideal applicants should:

-Be advanced undergraduates or recent graduates in biology, zoology, marine biology, ecology, or a related field; 
- Possess a mixture of experience in both field work and data-handling; 
- Have a mature attitude towards research, i.e. be willing and able to work long hours in office environment and in adverse field conditions; 
- Have boat experience(driving of small vessels preferred); 
- Be able to collect data in a detail-oriented manner; 
- Be proficient with computers and data entry; 
- Have strong work ethics and superior organizational skills; 
- Be independent, adaptable, and a fast-learner; 
- Be enthusiastic and possess a positive attitude; 
- Be sociable and team-oriented; 
- Speak English fluently. 

-Applicants with little biology or marine expertise that possess outstanding skills in programming, statistical analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and databases are also welcomed.
